Would You Like a Secure, Remote Job
with the U.S. Government?
Uncle Sam is offering remote employment across many different professions.
You can work from home anywhere in the USA, quit the commute,
and receive the amazing benefits given other Federal employees.
Baltimore, MD – August 31, 2022 | The coronavirus caused the Federal government to go virtual on one day, March 15, 2020. On that day, the Trump administration announced that Fed agencies were converting to “maximum telework” as much as possible to protect employees from the pandemic. As a result, the Feds discovered that many of their workers could be effective remotely. So now, more than two years later, there are more remote jobs than ever available to apply for on USAJOBs.com, the government’s official jobs site.
“The exciting news is that you can now search specifically for remote work on USAJOBs,” notes Federal jobs expert Kathryn Troutman. “This means there’s a way to easily find these opportunities to work independently, stop commuting, and work at home. Plus improve your quality of life.”
Troutman discovered this new search option during a recent virtual training for the Environmental Protection Agency. A student shared the idea, and she tried it out for the whole class of 20, becoming delighted to find it works.
What you want to do is enter “remote” in the “Location or Remote” field on USAJOBs. This will bring up dropdowns that include “Only show remote jobs.” Make that your selection and the available remote positions will show up.
Yesterday there were 381 “remote only” jobs that were found by this search. For these positions, you can live anywhere in the country. Troutman notes that this is different than “telework” positions, where you need to live near the agency and go into the office at times – perhaps once a week. Before COVID, the Feds were already innovators in telework, but now remote work is a whole new option.
The 08/30/22 search results for remote jobs included:
- Information Technology – Cyber Security (a few positions), Department of Energy (some travel required)
- Contract Specialist (25 positions), Veterans Health Administration
- General Engineer (many positions) Department of Energy (some travel required)
- Human Resources Assistant (a few positions), Department of Energy
- Writer-Editor – Speech Writer (1 position), Department of Homeland Security
- Executive Assistant (a few positions), Department of Veterans Affairs
- Patent Attorney (a few positions), Department of Energy (some travel required)
- Wildlife Biologist (1 position), Department of the Interior (some travel required)
“I want people to start looking at ‘show only remote jobs’ searches on USAJOBS to see what is out there,” Troutman said. “There are so many remote jobs, and many people don’t know about this. All kinds of technology have changed the work force today for both government and the private sector.”
